The fortress „Asara“ (Chatal Kaya)

Location: at 2 km from the village of Rabovo, Stambolovo municipality

Description:
the remains of the medieval fortress Asara, which impresses with the skilful incorporation of the fortress among inaccessible rocks. The walls are firmly cemented with mortar, reaching a thickness of 2 m and a height of 6 meters at Asara is due to the four huge rock towers encircling the interior in. At the bottom of particular interest are the preserved foundations of a building, built with large square stones. In one of the rock towers there is a cave next to which there are build graves, where now, you can see bones. With its strategic location, excellent visibility and inaccessibility, Asara has had a leading role in Byzantium in its control over Eastern Rhodopes. Asara shows spectacular views of the lake and the village of Studen Kladenets.

archeological monument with national importance

Access:
Asphalt road goes 500 m from the bottom of the rock, Asara is reachable by forest trail after 20 min walk.
