Eastern Rhodopes Tourist Map

The latest and most detailed up to now tourist map for the Eastern Rhodopes has been elaborated in 2011 by Bulgarian and Dutch experts of the New Thracian gold project.

The map presents all attractions of the Eastern Rhodopes fully covering ten municipalities - Kardzhali, Ardino, Chernoochene, Momchilgrad, Dzhebel, Kirkovo, Krumovgrad, Ivaylovgrad, Madzharovo, Stambolovo and parts of five more municipalities - Harmanli, Svilengrad, Nedelino, Lyubimets and Zlatograd in total area of 6000 sq. km.

The map exposes all the tourist information about the area: 38 archaeological and historical sites, 32 natural sites, 15 protected areas, 13 religious sites. A special sketch exposes the biodiversity of the Eastern Rhodopes, one of the richest in Europe.  The map has all marked places for bird watching (suitable for ornithological tours), sites for mammals and reptiles watching (suitable for Wildlife travels) and beautiful panoramic views, which show the stunning beauty of Eastern Rhodopes.

About 20 hiking and mountainbike trails are presented with details of the displacement, length and time needed; information on the sights along the way is also available.

The total print of the map is 2500 copies: 1500 in Bulgarian and 1000 in English. The map is financed by the New Thracian gold project. Revenues from the first edition of the map will be used for printing a second updated edition.
