Dutch Student Researches the Interaction between Ungulates and Wolves

Dutch student Tim Asbreuk researches the interaction between ungulates (mainly cattle and horses) and wolves. He arrived in the Eastern Rhodopes on 16 July and the plan is to stay till 13 October 2012.

For my study it is important to know where the wolves are, what they eat (livestock and wild prey species like deer) and how the ungulates react on the wolf presence. I will spend most of the time searching for wolf tracks and the carcasses they left behind in the field. From those carcasses I will note certain things like the species, the age and the location”, Tim explains.

With this study, Tim hopes to find out what the wolves eat in this time of the year and how cattle and horses react to avoid attacks of wolves.
