Call for Protection of Information Signs along the Rhodopean Long Distance Trail

The New Thracian Gold urgently appeals for the protection of the information signs along the  Long Distance Trail for biking and hiking in the Rhodopes.  In October, a hundred route signs were placed, but several are already removed or destroyed, as the NTG team found out.

It seems that in certain areas someone deliberately had removed signs, like in the area around Byala reka and the village of Dazhdovnitza. Between the villages Galabovo and Latinka, the tree marking has been cut with an ax, Michael Kircheva, NTG coordinator on eco tourism said.

The route starts from Pamporovo, goes to the east passing the Western Rhodopes, Kardzhali dam lake, the area of the reserve Studen Kladenets, the towns of Ivaylovgrad and Madzharovo and ends in Kardzhali.

The NTG team expects  the long distance trail to attract more tourists to come to the Rhodopes, therefore NTG cofinanced the color marking of the trail. The signs are crucial, without those markings the tourists can not navigate.

The official launching of the Long Distance Trail for biking and hiking in the Rhodopes is planned for the HOLIDAY & SPA EXPO 2013 in Sofia. In February 2013, a special route-map will be published. The trail will be included in the programs of “House of adventures and books”, “Bikearea”, Bulgarian and programs of foreign touroperators.
