Otters near Nature Conservation Center in Madzharovo
Two otters were observed in the Arda River near the Nature conservation center Eastern Rhodopes in the morning of December 1st, 2012. The animals were diving and fishing in the river, volunteers in the Center informed NTG webiste.
In the Eastern Rhodopes otters are active mainly at night and observations of otters during the day are very rare.
The otter is listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria due to the strong decrease of their population. In the Eastern Rhodopes exists one of their densest populations. The otters inhabit lakes, rivers and ponds and eat mainly fish.
