“New Thracian Gold” at Holiday Spa & Expo 2011
Nearly 700 visitors of the traditional international exhibition "Holiday & Spa Expo in Sofia (17-19 February) stopped by the stand of the "New Thracian Gold" project (NTG). Among them were representatives of 78 travel agencies and ten media.
The new tourist map of the Eastern Rhodopes, elaborated by the project team, was the most in demand of the NTG products.
Moreover, visitors bought also Eastern Rhodopes organic products – honey, tahini, herbs and asked for information materials on the most popular sights in the region and on offers for organized and individual trips.
People were mostly interested in opportunities for out-of-the box holiday - adventure tours, rural tourism, bird watching. "Eastern Rhodopes attract people with the fact that they are still unknown to many Bulgarians. Some even find them an “exotic” destination: the area is mixed, there are compact Turkish villages and places which you can hardly reach even on foot”, Michaela Kircheva, coordinator tourism in New Thracian Gold says.
Betty and Nikolay Vassilev, the owners of the Wild Farm in the village of Gorno Pole, (Madzharovo municipality), told the visitors about the opportunities for recreation in the Eastern Rhodopes, where tourists can combine archaeological and nature sites tours with tasting local and organic food and enjoying wilderness and biodiversity.
