Bulgaria Generates BGN 2 Bln. From Tourism
Bulgaria has not ever enjoyed such good income from tourism as reported in the latest report of BNB, Bulgarian National Bank for the period January - July 2011. The revenues of the seven months are € 961.3 million (nearly BGN 2 billion). This is an increase of 6.7% over the same period last year, Deputy Minister of Economy and Tourism Ivo Marinov told Trud daily in mid September.
3,505,119 foreign tourists, not including the transit ones, have entered this country in the perioid of January – July. This is an increase of 6% compared to 2010. The number of foreign nationals who have entered Bulgaria includes those who have property here or come for business. Those who were on holiday and recreation in Bulgaria, however, are 7.3% more than during the same period last year, Deputy Minister Marinov said.
In the second quarter of 2011 only, National Statistical Instituteannounced an increased number of overnights spent to Bulgaria by foreigners to 23.6 percent. For this period, their overnights are 3,069,732. The growth of overnight stays by citizens of Germany is by 13.5% compared to the last year, from Russia - 46.1%, from Romania - 20,3%, and Israel - 44.6%.
In the second quarter of this year, the revenues from the domestic tourism by Bulgarian nationals is 165 million leva, which is 14.4 percent more than in April-June 2010. Data for a strong summer months is still not avaiable, but in the second quarter of this year, the number of nights spent by Bulgarians goes up and reaches 1,454,257, which is 13.6 percent more than the same period last year.
Deputy Minister Marinov said that the Tourism Act draft has been coordinated with all relevant institutions and it will be submitted to the Council of Ministers till mid October.
