European Birdwatch Days in Madzharovo

On 5 and 6 October 2013, students from “Yordan Yovkov” High School in Kardzhali visited the Vulture Center in Madzharovo to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the European BirdWatch Days.

The young nature-lovers learnt interesting facts about vultures and the biodiversity of the Eastern Rhodopes, watched the movie “Fly away” and had a birdwatching tour around Madzharovo, where they saw Common Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon, Cormorants, Grey Herons, Jays and more other species. After the birdwatching tour the students joined a quiz and showed agood knowledge about the rare species of the region.

The Euro Birdwatch has been organized for the first time in 1993. Since than it gathers every year thousands of people in various event and activities or just in observation migrating birds. The aim is to increase awareness about the majestic life of birds and threats they face during the most spectacular event in the world – the migration.

This activity is implemented under the project “Promoting the Nature Information and Conservation center in Madzharovo and increasing awareness of wildlife heritage in the Eastern Rhodopes” supported by New Thracian Gold.
