NTG at Kartali 2013
NTG biodiversity coordinator Hristo Hristov made a presentation on „Wilderness and natural grazing“ during the nature conservational educational camp Kartali (7 – 11 May).
He presented to the participants in the camp the NTG activities for the restoration of the components of the wildlife and achieving of a sustainable management and use of the nature resources of the Eastern Rhodopes. Christo explained the key role of the large herbivores and the natural grazing for the maintenance and the conservation of the rich biodiversity of the area. He also presented the results of the project activities on the reintroduvtion of missing large herbivores in the Eastern Rhodopes and the natural grazing with rare local breeds.
The nature conservational educational camp Kartali took place between 7 and 11 May 2013 on Studen kladenetz dam in the Eastern Rhodopes – one of the most beautiful and rich in biodiversity places in Bulgaria. 60 young ecologists – among them the four Dutch students who are doing a filed research within NTG project and members of NTG Eco Youth Club in Kardzhali – joined the camp. They watched and learned to identify and monitor birds, amphibians and reptiles. They also participated in expeditions for studying mammals.
Kartali 2013 was organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds with the special support of the New Thracian gold project.
