Lectures on the Biodiversity in the Eastern Rhodopes
The team of Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds within the project “Promoting the Nature Information and Conservation Center in Madzharovo and increasing awareness of the wildlife heritage in the Eastern Rhodopes” during April made presentations about the biodiversity of the Eastern Rhodopes in front of 510 students in 11 schools in Haskovo and Kardzhali region. The lectures were presented between the National Forest Week (1st -7th April) and the International Earth Day, April 22nd.
Students understood interesting facts about the rare plant and animal species in the Eastern Rhodopes. Those of them, who answered the questions of the lectors, received informational materials about the conservation of the endangered Egyptian vulture in Bulgaria. All of them were invited to the next meeting in the field in Madzharovo.
The team of the project has visited 20 schools in the region since the beginning of April. Over
1030 students had the opportunity to hear about the biodiversity of the mountain of Orpheus.
The activities of the educational initiative are supported by New Thracian Gold project for the sustainable development of the Eastern Rhodopes.
