New Thracian Gold Participated in BioAgra 2013

Producers of organic food products form the Eastern Rhodopes, the target area of the Bulgarian-Dutch project New Thracian Gold (NTG) participated in the second edition of BioAgraa specialized trade exhibition of organic farming, which took place during the 22nd edition of the International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA from 5 to 9 March 2013 in Plovdiv. It was the fourth time that NTG participated in AGRA. For a second time in a row the NTG producers of organic plant and animal products had an own stand and a big space for their products.

Certified and in-conversion organic honey, crops, wine from organic grapes and other products,  as well as informational, promotional and training materials on the results of the development of the organic farming component of New Thracian Gold shaped the the project stand. The  NTG stand was situated in hall N: 3 of the Plovdiv Fair where visitors got information and shared experience with producers from the Eastern Rhodopes. They had opportunity to taste einkorn and products from limetz from Mr. Petko Angelov’s organic farm in Rabovo, wine from Mr. Yonko Todorov’s and Mr. Dimcho Dimitrov from Stambolovo region, honey and home-made preservatives from the Wild Farm of Beti and Nikolay Vasilievi, sesame, tahini, herbs, spelt bread and other products from the Eastern Rhodopes.

The recently published (in Bulgarian and English)by the project brochure entitled "Achieving effective cooperation among rural population in Eastern Rhodopesproblems and opportunities for integrated regional resource-based developmentwritten by NTG coordinator for organic farming Dr. Vladislav Popov was also presented during the event.

On March 6, NTG representatives participated in the annual meeting of the Bulgarian Organic Products Association and on March 7 - in the International Conference "Organic Production - Entrepreneurship and Management" where Dr. Popov presented the NTG project and its achievements.  The number of organic operators grows by 30 percent annually, Dr. Popov said. According to him the new trend in the industry is the establishment of regional cooperatives that help the producers be more competitive in the market. The start of building an international network for promoting the organic farms was announced at the conference.

For a second time also, anEvening of Organic Foodwas organised by the NTG organic component and the staff of the Dutch Embassy in Sofia.  More than 15 Dutch companies met their Bulgarian partners, among them NTG and Eastern Rhodopean producers

At BioAgra 2013, Nеw Thracian Gold established new promising contacts for the improvement of the marketing for the NTG organic network and interesting partnerships for future cooperation with similar projects and NGOs.

In 2009,  New Thracian Gold project began with 7 certified producers. There are currently over 35 producers and processors who are certified or are in conversion to organic, all controlled by certification bodies, the brochure informs. This network of farmers is regularly informed about new developments and requirements in organic production, and are consulted individually by organic farming experts in the project and receive regular marketing support.
