Training Seminar for NTG Organic Producers

On February 15th, 35 organic and in-conversion NTG producers from the region of the Eastern Rhodopes participated in a training seminar on problems and opportunities in the organic farming in 2013.

The training was organised in the village of Stambolovo by NTG organic farming components in partnership with Agricultural University of Plovdiv (lecturers provided) and the private company Bul-Pro, a leading company in providing organic fertilizers for organic farming. Representatives of the Regional Agriculture Advisory Service in Haskovo and the Bulgarian Organic Products Association, and the manager of the demo-organic farm in Topolovo Mr. Krassmir Arabadzhiev also participated in the seminar.

The trainers and advisors plus the NTG organic component coordinator Dr. Vladislav Popov have covered topics related to organic production, incl. growing techniques, soil fertility, plant protection, certification, processing and trade, etc. A number of options were introduced to participants on how to restore and maintain soil fertility using local resources and modern organic additives and tools. Practical technological advices were provided. Advisors committed themselves to provide regular assistance to the ER organic producers, both on-site and on-line via Internet.

The NTG organic coordinator Dr. V.Popov and his assistant G.Koychev made additional meetings with the two target groups from Stambolovo (organic grape and wine producers) and Ivajlovgrad (sesame and grain producers) in order to coordinate and fine-tune the use of NTG-provided agricultural machinery and equipment, and clarify questions related to production and marketing of the ER organic and in-conversion products.

Advisers from the company Bul-Pro and an Italian expert, representing the Italian producer of organic fertilizers, introduced to participants types, mode of action, advantages and application techniques of a range of liquid fertilisers that are successfully used in Italy, EU and in Bulgaria.

Dr. Vladislav Popov informed participants for the upcoming ABD monitoring programme 2013, distributed an Overview paper on ‘Methodologies for monitoring ABD in ER’ and discussed future actions with those organic farmers who want to take part in the programme in 2013.

The programme provided sufficient time for informal discussions during which producers, processors and trainers shared experience and knowledge.
