NTG Training of agricultural producers from Eastern Rhodopes
25 agricultural producers participated in a NTG training on organic plant protection in Kardzhali on 18-19 February 2011. Three trainers, among them Prof. St.Karov (Ecofarm) and Assoc.Prof. V.Popov (Avalon BG), have covered the topics related to organic certification of target crops, processing and trade, organic methods and techniques to produce sesame, grapes, fruits, cooperation among farmers and possibilities for application for EU subsidies through the RDP 2007-2013, etc. It was make clear to the participants that the project is aiming at encouraging cooperation between nut producers in the region.
The programme included sufficient time for informal discussions during which producers, processors, trainers and researchers shared experience and knowledge.
A number of folders with newly produced brochures on “Natural plant protection in organic farming”, compiled by Dr. V.Popov and printed out with NTG organic farming component support, were distributed among participants and attracted significant interest. In addition, besides the learning objectives, the social character of this gathering proved successful. A group of six sesame growers started to prepare a small cooperative in Ivaylovgrad, which is aiming not only organic sesame production but also other crops in the region of Ivaylovgrad.
