New Guest House in the Eastern Rhodopes
A new guest house in the Eastern Rhodopes will be officially opened on 26 April. The house is part of the "Wild Farm" of the family of Blagovesta and Nikolai Vasilievi in the village of Gorno pole, Municipality Madzharovo. The opening of the house is possible with financial support from the Bulgarian-Dutch project New Thracian Gold
In 2005, Betty and Nikolay opened for guests their house, which they called "Wild Farm". It was possible they accommodate tourists in one room only, "Wild Farm" became popular. About 300 tourists stayed in Vassilievi house. In 1996, Betty and Nikolay sold an apartment in Plovdiv to buy their first cow . Currently, they grow in a natural way about 450 cattle - 150 from the local breed Rodopi Shorthorn cattle and 300 from the Bulgarian Grey cattle – an old Bulgarian and also protected breed. The family has also sheep and horses. The farm has a certification for the veal, honey and vegetables from their garden and also for the pastures where the animals graze. Nearly 1,500 people - mostly students, but also individual tourists - have visited their farm.
Besides delicious organic and local food Vassilievi's family offers to their guests numerous activities - horseback riding, boating, picnics in theforest, searching for honey from wild bees, catching a wild cattle with a lasso, monitoring vultures, which can sometimes be seen in the backyard if they house like they were pets... "The tourists who visit us are drawn here mostly from the wild nature and the cultural monuments in the region," Betty says.
In the new house, part of the "Wild Farm" Betty and Nikolay will be able to accommodate guests in six rooms.
Vasiliev family is an example of the three components of the project New Thracian Gold in one: the develop ecotourism, produce organic products and grow in a natural way cattle of local breeds.
"Wild Farm" is part of a network of New Thracian Gold in the Eastern Rhodopes of owners of guest houses and entrepreneurs who develop ecotourism. The project supports them both ways, financially and with advices, practical trainings and experience exchange.
