The New Thracian Gold Project is supporting economic growth and welfare in the Eastern Rhodopes Mountains by developing activities which combine organic farming, nature conservation and tourism. This project is carried out by the Dutch nature conservation organisations Ark and Avalon and financially supported by the Dutch Post-code Lottery in the period of 2009- 2014.

In 2013, New Thracian Gold project organizes for the third time two contests „Eastern Rhodopestaste the wild nature: 1: for the most interesting travel story and 2: for the best photo. We’d like to see in the text and photo entries a combination or one of the three NTG-elements: wilderness/nature, ecotourism or organic farming. See more

 

Private persons and companies are invited to contribute financially to the initiatives of NTG – Bulgaria Foundation for sustainable development of the Eastern Rhodopes. See more

 

The team of New Thracian Gold continues monitoring the behaviour of the recently released Red Deer in the area of "Studen Kladenets" Game Reserve. In 2012, fifteen Red Deer were translocated to “Studen Kladenets”. See what the photo traps have captured, so far

 

March 16th, the snow did not discourage the kukeri (costumed mummers) of the Ivaylovgrad neighbourhood Ladzha to chase off the evil spirits with scary masks and ringing of bells. At the end of winter and begin of spring Ivaylovgrad celebrates Kukeri Day, a traditional Bulgarian ritual. See more

 

Recently, Dutch artist Cecile Boesten started using the wool of Karakachan sheep in her art: bags, decorative bowls, clothing, necklaces, bracelets, etc. For the first time ever the artist uses the wool of this rare Bulgarian breed, typical for the Eastern Rhodopes. See more

 

Eastern Rhodopian producers of organic food participated in the second edition of BioAgra, the specialized exhibition on organic farming, which took place during the 22nd edition of the International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA from 5 to 9 March 2013 in Plovdiv. It was the fourth time that NTG participated in AGRA. For the second time in a row the NTG organic producers had an own stand showing their products. See more

 

On March 5th, New Thracian Gold experts Hristo Hristov (biodiversity) and Michaela Kircheva (ecotourism) – together with farmer Todor Mitkov, a member of NTG network – toured in the area of Ivaylovgrad Municipality in search of an appropriate location for the construction of a photo hide for nature tourism. A site near the village Kostilkovo has been chosen. See more

 

103 women from 41 tourist clubs from all over the country participated in the 53rd edition of the National march of tourists women, which this year took place in the Eastern Rhodopes (February 28 - March 3). See more

 

Kardzhali, one of the two regional centers in the Eastern Rhodopes is presented in a recently published photo album. See more

 

Kardzhali and Haskovo, the centers of the two provinces of the Eastern Rhodopes, join Earth Hour 2013 which will be on March 23, 2013 (Saturday) from 20:30 to 21:30. See more
