The New Thracian Gold Project is supporting economic growth and welfare in the Eastern Rhodopes Mountains by developing activities which combine organic farming, nature conservation and tourism. This project is carried out by the Dutch nature conservation organisations Ark and Avalon and financially supported by the Dutch Post-code Lottery in the period of 2009- 2014.

The first five of the total of 30 Fallow Deer were recently introduced in the area of the village of Tintyava (Kriumovgrad Municipality) in the Eastern Rhodopes. This is the result of the New Thracian Gold (NTG) efforts to reintroduce the Fallow Deer in the territory of the all Eastern Rhodopes. See more

 

Record high numbers of Griffon Vultures were found to breed in the Eastern Rhodopes during the preliminary monitoring during 13-16 of February. See more

 

On February 15th, 35 organic and in-conversion NTG producers from the region of the Eastern Rhodopes participated in a training seminar about  new opportunities in organic farming in 2013. See more

 

On February 14th, the Long Distance Hiking and Biking Route “Trans Rhodopi” was presented at a special press conference during the opening day of the 30th International Tourist fair Holiday & Spa Expo 2013 in Sofia. Trans Rodopi was developed as a joint initiative of NTG and twin organisations.  See more

 

Dimo Karaboyukov from New Thracian Gold network participated in the first ever “EcoFest of love and wine” organized on 13 and 14 February in Sofia. He presented red and white wine from organic grapes. See more

 

The development of the organic agriculture and the achieved cooperation of organic and in conversion producers in the Eastern Rhodopes within the NTG network are presented in a newly produced  NTG brochure (in Bulgarian and in English) by Dr. Vladislav Popov, NTG coordinator on organic farming. See more

 

On February 6th, New Thracian Gold presented various Eastern Rhodopes tourism products and activities at the "Green Holiday" exhibition in Haskovo. The local organic products honey, tahini and wine were highly appreciated  by the visitors. See more

 

On February 5th,  NTG’s biodiversity experts Hristo Hristov and Stefan Avramov and ecotourism expert Mihaela Kircheva did a joint field survey with Nikolay Vassiliev from “The Wild Farm” in the village of Gorno Pole, searching for appropriate locations  to build photo hides for tourists. On February 2nd, many citizens of various age enjoyed birdwatching at the Heron colony in the town of Kardzhali. The birdwatching event was part of the  World Wetlands Day celebration.  See more

 

"Back to the Nature. Onward to Ivaylovgrad." Under this headline the magazine “Usuri” presents in its January issue an article, about the beautiful area of Ivaylovgrad, its stunning nature and hospitable people. See more

 

New Thracian Gold project will participate at the BioAgra Trade Exhibition of Organic Farming, which will be held from 5 to 9 March 2013 in Plovdiv as part of the 22nd International Agricultural Exhibition AGRA.
